On Saturday, September 14, AIA New Mexico awarded the recipients of the New Mexico Architects Medal and the AIA New Mexico Architects Silver Medal for Lifetime Achievement at a ceremony that took place in conjunction with the AIA New Mexico State Convention hosted by AIA Southern New Mexico. Two honor awards were presented by AIA New Mexico President, Ron Burstein, AIA. The awards were juried by Edith Cherry, FAIA, ASLA; Beverly Spears, FAIA and Richard Haas, AIA.

Allan Baer has dedicated his time and effort generously over many years to the American Institute of Architects. He has served as an officer of the Santa Fe Chapter for eight years including three terms as president. He has served AIA New Mexico as an officer for six years including one year as president. He has also worked tirelessly to help organize major AIA events including three Western Mountain Region conventions, and several AIA New Mexico conventions. We hereby recognize his unflagging commitment and service to the AIA over the past two decades.



Terry Brown was raised alongside the Crow Indian Reservation in Montana. He received his architectural degree from Texas Tech University and has practiced in New Mexico for over 35 years. He served honorably in the US Army during the Viet Nam War flying over 100 combat helicopter missions. During his architectural career Terry has consistently shown a caring for how architecture affects people. He has worked with Mayan linguists to create language schools in Central America and has worked with many Native American communities to provide them with vital healthcare and educational facilities as well as many residences. His architecture always acknowledged the culture and made a lasting difference in its community.

Throughout his career he has raised public awareness of the role architects and architecture plays. His work within the profession includes: President AIA Albuquerque, President AIA New Mexico, President New Mexico Architectural Foundation, AIA Director Western Mountain Region, New Mexico Representative to the AIA State Government Network, Vice President AIA National, Chair AIA National Disaster Assistance Committee, juror of numerous AIA award programs and AIA Liaison to Latin America.

Mr. Brown has been honored with many awards and recognitions. Some of these include: AIA Fellowship, WMR Silver Medal, Richard Upjohn Fellowship (twice), Texas Tech College of Architecture Distinguished Alumnus, Lansing B. Bloom Award from the New Mexico Historical Society, US Army Bronze Star, US Army Air Medal, and the Whitney Young, Jr. Award honoring the profession's responsibility to society. Terry is also active in his community serving in the following capacities: Activities Chair for the Boy Scouts Great Southwest Council, Cub Scout Den Leader, Chair of the Corrales Planning and Zoning Commission, Chair of the Corrales Main Street Committee and Commissioner of the Corrales Bosque Advisory Commission.
